Amsterdam hotels and accommodation

If you want to go for a vacation in Amsterdam and are looking for Amsterdam hotels or a particular Amsterdam hotel, EasyToBook.com is the spot for you! Many hotels in Amsterdam as well as other Netherlands hotels are continually signing up to EasyToBook.com. Nearly every kind of hotel in Amsterdam features on our site: whether you are looking for a luxurious accommodation in Amsterdam, a cheap hotel in Amsterdam or perhaps a Schiphol hotel (Amsterdam airport hotel), these can all be viewed on EasyToBook.com, where all the hotels Amsterdam has to offer, and indeed every kind of hotel Amsterdam offers you, can be found.

The city of Amsterdam has many different faces, which it shows at different times. Known by all to be the cultural capital of Holland and having, with its beautiful canals running through the city centre, earned itself the honorary name of "the Venice of the North", it attracts, and keeps attracting, travellers from all over the world, and with good reason. With more than 700 years of often tumultuous history behind it, Amsterdam has evolved into a melting pot of cultures and sub-cultures, bringing people from different backgrounds together to form a rather unique and distinctly urban environment that has something to offer to everyone.

Amsterdam is the city of Rembrandt. The famous painter lived and worked in the old Jewish neighbourhood of the city, where his house can still be visited. It is his Age - the so-called ·Golden Age· that is the period of economic and cultural thriving that lasted from roughly 1580 to 1670 - that has left us some of the most precious treasures of art as well as architecture. The picturesque buildings that one finds oneself surrounded with in most of the old city centre are an attraction in themselves. Taking a trip along the canals is a must for every lover of architecture, as it offers one the possibility of viewing the city from an incomparably charming angle. But it is not all buildings and paintings in Amsterdam.

All around the world the city is known for its inhabitants tolerant attitude toward soft drugs and prostitution. These controversial elements of city life, always mentioned in a single breath, arousing excitement in some and nervousness in others, are taken less seriously by locals. It is this laid-back attitude that feeds and sustains the easy-going atmosphere of life in Amsterdam so often remarked upon by those who have spent time in the city, whether or not they have bothered to delve into the regions in question. So visiting a ·coffee shop· (a by now well known euphemism for ·pot smoking hang out·) is an option, just as having a look around the infamous red light district is an option. (Those who prefer to keep their involvement within the realm of cultural education can, of course, choose to visit the marihuana museum or the sex museum.) On a more serious note, one of the most famous and crowd-drawing spots in Amsterdam is the house of Anne Frank. It is this house, behind a church, where the Jewish girl hid and wrote her diaries. The place where she lived and wrote is visited by many each year and leaves an unforgettable impression on most.

Then there is the nightlife, without which Amsterdam would not be what it is: the pubs in the alleys, the clubs on the squares, the Concertgebouw with its famous acoustics, comedy clubs where the Dutch let Americans make fun of them, restaurants with delicacies from every corner of the world - it is all present, and all of it easily reachable with an excellent public transportation system. During the day - all week through, including on Sundays - Amsterdam offers its visitors ample opportunity for shopping. It is not widely known, but certainly true that, in this area, Amsterdam competes with cities like London, Paris and Milan, one of the differences being that Amsterdam has more to offer to those with less to spend. The city of Amsterdam has many different faces, to be sure. But smile at any one of them, and all of them will smile back at you.

Introduction to Blackpool
By FROMMER'S

This once-antiquated Midlands resort is struggling to make a comeback by marketing itself to a new generation of vacationers. The result may remind you of Atlantic City or even Las Vegas (with a weird Victorian twist). The city has a midwinter population of 125,000 that swells to three or four times that in midsummer.

The country's largest resort makes its living from conferences, tour groups, families, and couples looking for an affordable getaway. Its 11km (7 miles) of beaches, 9.5km (6 miles) of colored lights, and dozens of Disneylike attractions and rides make Blackpool one of the most entertaining (and least apologetic) pieces of razzle-dazzle in England.
