General our opinion: This is a delightful hotel; you feel relaxed and welcome from the moment you arrive. Set in beautiful Cumbria countryside on the outskirts of Grasmere this original coaching inn offers a great base from which to explore the Lakes. Traditional small reception with a relaxing lounge area for afternoon coffee or after dinner brandy! There is also a welcoming bar and an intimate, traditional restaurant. The quality of food and service is fantastic. Bedrooms can vary in size due to the age of the building (the inn was affectionately referred to in Wordsworth's poem "The Waggoner") but all are traditional in style, clean and comfortable. General our opinion: Traditional hotel in an enviable position on the shores of Lake Windermere and in the heart of Bowness-on-Windermere. Fantastic views of England's largest lake and the hotels gardens leading down to the water and jetties. The hotel offers good standard of accommodation and public areas all decorated in a traditional style but with a contemporary feel. Large lounge to sit and relax and a cosy bar which leads onto a terrace in the summer. The restaurant provides great lake views.
