Although new, the hotel's façade is in keeping with it's original, traditional style. Minimalist contemporary style bedrooms are predominantly white with a hint of blue, green or sand which the designer chose to represent the colours of the Dutch landscape. General our opinion: Enjoying a quiet canal side location in a small street just off the lively Leidseplein, the King Hotel Amsterdam is housed in an attractive canal house and has been entirely renovated in 2007. It is now a modern, family run hotel that has been much improved, with new en-suite facilities and other comforts, like LCD TVs and tea & coffee making facilities (on request) in the rooms. There are still a few things left to do, such as the installation of the lift and a couple of finishing touches, but overall the hotel now offers a good standard, a central location and importantly great value for money! General our opinion: For something a bit different why not try a stay on the water in Amsterdam's well known floating hotel, the Amstel Botel Amsterdam. Since the beginning of 2008 the hotel has been moored in a trendy dockside area immediately to the North of Central Station, which has a bohemian feel with workshops, artists' studios and hip cafes. A great plus point is the fact that they also offer a free ferry connection and shuttle bus service to Central Station. The cabins are compact and so we have chosen to feature the hotel as a 2 star superior (officially rated 3 star) but all have en-suite facilities and are well maintained. Staff are friendly and there is plenty of room to relax or even have a game of pool in the bar area. General our opinion: Newly opened in September 2006 the modern Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre has been built on the waterfront next to the ferry passenger terminal and offers a high standard of accommodation in this exciting part of the city. An imposing 20 storey building from the outside leads to a calm and relaxing interior with pleasant and well thought out public areas and contemporary styled bedrooms, many with fantastic views of the city or the harbour. The area may only be a short walk from Central Station, but feels completely different, with art galleries, restaurants such as Jamie Oliver's Fifteen, boutique shops and trendy bars and clubs, all close to the waterfront.
